About the training
In this four-part on-demand training, learn what trauma is and the basics of trauma-informed care in the perinatal period. Your instructors, Sarah and Justine, take you on an intimate journey through discussions about their personal and professional experiences of navigating trauma in the perinatal period. Learn about the six losses of trauma, how to support your clients, and why you need to take care of yourself in the process.
This course is created with therapists, doulas, and other perinatal professionals in mind as we recognize the need for all of us to operate with an understanding of trauma and trauma-informed care. Enhance your knowledge of trauma and boost your confidence in providing trauma-informed care to your clients, whether they disclose a history of trauma or not.

Justine Leach, Ph.D., M.Phil., B.A.C.E trained childbirth educator.
Justine supports survivors of trauma through perinatal coaching and childbirth education. As well as being a mother of three, she holds a Ph.D. in representations of consent and sexual violence.
Sarah Adelmann, LMHC, M.A., M.Ed.
Sarah is a licensed mental health counselor and mom of three. She walks with a story of trauma from before and as a result of her perinatal experience.
Course Outline:
Lesson 1: What is trauma?
In this video, we introduce you to the concept of trauma and how it works in the body.
Lesson 2: The Six Losses of Trauma
We introduce you to the idea that trauma can be understood in terms of loss, deepening your comprehension of what is happening for your client who walks with trauma.
Lesson 3: Principles of Trauma-Informed Care in the perinatal Period
Find confidence in supporting trauma survivors through a deepened knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
Lesson 4: Vicarious Trauma
In this video, we discuss the impact of vicarious trauma on our professional lives and why taking care of the self is essential to continuing to provide the care that our clients deserve.
